The Food Pantry at MCC of the Rockies started with a small closet in the Parish house in 1991. A few church members served food to 2 to 10 individuals weekly. Over the years, the Food Pantry has grown drastically, moved to the larger room at the back of the church, and added a shed in the back for storage. The numbers served have grown as well. The Food Pantry currently serves approximately 300 – 400 people each week we are open.

Approximately 3000 – 4000 pounds of food is given out each week. Some of this food is purchased from the Food Bank of the Rockies, some is donated from local grocery stores, and some is donated from the congregation. Nonperishable canned or boxed items are always needed; including small serving items for individuals, larger serving items for families, snack foods for kids and item that can be easily opened and don’t require cooking, for those who don’t have the means to cook.

In addition to food, the Food Pantry collects and distributes pet food, diapers, and wipes for families with children, toiletries for those who need them.

The Food Pantry is staffed by 25 – 30 volunteers each week. Some volunteers are members and friends of MCCR. Other volunteers are members of the greater community. Many are recipients of our services or other services, and give their time as a way of giving back for what they have received. Volunteers help with unloading and stocking food, setting up for distribution, signing in recipients and serving food. More help is always needed!
